After recently attending two fabulous technology conferences sponsored by SDCUE & CSLA, I discovered the value of developing a Personal Learning Network (PLN). I define this as interacting online with others who share the same interests. I have already gained so many ideas by getting involved in this process. Let me share with you four amazing online tools to create your own PLN. Use a Google search to retrieve these sites.
1. Edmodo-a site exclusively designed for educators with a Facebook like format. Teachers can create class accounts for student participation. It's beneficial in two key ways. A. It's unfiltered at a majority of school sites. B. Students don't need personal email accounts to register. 2. I Google-may be used as a tool for organizing favorite personal or professional sites. Students and teachers who have Google accounts may register. 3. Symbaloo-very similar to I Google with an IPAD/Smart Phone interface. Websites selected look like Apps on the screen 4. Twitter-allows user to expand their personal & professional base nationally & internationally. Unfortunately, students can't access it on many school campuses due to district filters.
