CHS students and faculty who visited the library during either lunch on September 23, 2011 were treated to musical performances by their fellow classmates in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Look back on the festivities with the Animoto video. For those who didn't participate, another open mike session will be scheduled the week of Halloween. Start preparing your material for this spooky occasion. Image from http://www.madisonvoices.com/hispanicheritage/images/Hispanic_300_opt.jpg

Over the next few days, local author Jonathan Auxier will host book talks and signings to CJUSD students and staff. He will speak for the first four class periods and lunch at Colton Middle School on Wednesday September 21, 2011. For those who won't get to hear him at Colton Middle, he will appear again at the Colton High School Redlands Barnes & Noble bookstore at the Lugonia Shopping Center on Saturday September 24, 2011. Take a look at Jonathan's website http://www.thescop.com/ to learn more about Peter Nimble & his professional journey. After I read his Peter Nimble book & listen to Jonathan speak, I will post further thoughts on the "Books" blog from this site. In the meantime, enjoy the Peter Nimble You Tube trailer.
As I have participated in numerous Barnes & Noble Book Fairs for Colton High, Colton Middle, and Terrace Hills Middle, the primary objective has remained the same: raise as much money as possible for library books for each of the respective school libraries. The upcoming Colton High School Book Fair on Saturday September 24 will include many similar activities such as games, storytime, and music to attract visitors. However, it will slightly differ in scope in that others will also directly reap the benefits of the event.
I ask this question of CJUSD educators. Do you need more money for class supplies? I suspect many will answer in the affirmative. I invite all interested parties to attend a free grant writing workshop sponsored by Barnes & Noble at 11 AM-12PM. The CHS library also receives proceeds for those who also buy the book used during the session. How many of you like to uncover new children's literature-- particularly by a local author? Jonathan Auxier, author of Peter Thimble books, will generously offer his support to our cause. Not only will he give a book talk & have a signing during the 2-3 PM slot, he will speak at an assembly at Colton Middle School on Wednesday September 21. His books will be available for purchase at the Redlands store. I look forward to seeing many new faces as well as those who have supported the CHS library in the past on the 24th. I specifically tailored an Animoto video for this occasion. http://animoto.com/play/0VnZU5iGnqxlkiBhAxojng Image from http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ULJ2tlK_jSk/TiUFxfqUipI/AAAAAAAABgA/0M7N6FNpX8M/s400/BNCafe.jpg |
